Being offered a seat by an overly zealous auntie who thought I was pregnant : Humiliation has no price tag

I wonder if its ‘revenge’, I had pretended to be pregante (by rubbing my non-existence tummy(according to Jenny)) while on the bus and a boy gave me his seat. This was the day before.

Rising temperature

April 26, 2009

of the weather and of my little precious daughter. A combination that’s really lethal to an old and aging woman of my age.

I don’t really know what’s the actual temperature outside, but it sure scare the shitwits out of me when Hubba took her temperature and announced “its 39.9. ” He had wanted to insert that horrible bullet thingy into her bum, but I insisted that we should wait and got him to call the GP instead; while I soak her in the bathtub filled to the brim with cool water. As we had just administered the fever med about 15mins prior, the GP told us to wait for another 45mins and only insert the bullet if the temp is still as high. After my relentless sponging and coaxing her to stay in the cool water (which must have been really cold for her hot body), my efforts paid off as her temperature dropped steadily to a still-hot-but-not-half-as-bad 38. This was Friday. Her temperature started on Wednesday night as we were putting her to bed. Hubba had taken her to the GP on Friday morning and was told that Rae has slight viral infection, so she was not given antibiotic, which I was quite glad.

Rae’s temperature would hover around 37.5 -38.5 in the day time, and she would be still her normal self active/noisy/cheerful. But as soon as the sun starts to set at about 6ish, her temperature would shot right up to 39. Almost immediately, she would turn into a different person grumpy/quiet/exhausted looking little 5 year old.

Took her back to the GP this morning as she woke with a fever of 38. This time, she was put on a 3-day course of antibiotic, a stronger dose of cough mixture (which knocks her out pretty fast) and a stronger dose of airway medication.  The irritating cough has been keeping her up, she’s be fast asleep for 40minutes and just as I thought she’s in deep sleep, she would jerk awake with a string of throaty cough.  She will then be unable to go back to sleep and would lie there with her sleepy eyes, and constant cough fits.

I can’t take leave tomorrow as I am in charge of the training session in the afternoon, but we’ve arranged for my aunt to help out. Sigh….I, who have 3 mothers (my mum/step MIL/ MIL), have to turn to an aunt for help in times of need sigh…….

I’ve since postpone my dinner date on Tuesday to Wednesday; Ruth who has happy news to share and update me on, and I do miss her company quite a fair bit. But my role has a mum has to take precedence . And I am planning to take Tuesday off to be with Rae, although I do think the Boss may not be half as pleased since its the graduation party for this group of students.  I will prepare all the stuff in advanced (certs/flowers/cakes/wine etc) and will brief the course assistants(who should by now know what to do but alas). Seriously, if such a simple run-of-the-mill graduation party can’t happen without my presence, what’s going to happen next year when I turn even more part-time???

sigh……….very tired.

Geylang like a virgin

April 22, 2009
That’s what Carol describe my trip yesterday as. Well, its half truth as its not my maiden trip to Geylang, but its been so long ago, we might just as well make it virgin.

First, I was looking forward enthusiastically to our scrapbook class, after Carol announced that her very sweet hubby was going to bring us for supper; my mind was far from scrap booking! A rumbling tummy wasn’t helping all that much anyways.

We hopped into his sports car and zoomed off, literally, and within minutes we were looking for a parking lot at Yong Hur located in Geylang. Hubba had promised to bring me since we were courting, 12 years ago and a daughter past, I’ve yet set foot at Yong Hur so one can only imagine the level of thrilled-ness, I wanted to order everything on the menu, but remained sensible. We each had a huge bowl of Tau Huey, a super long Yu tiao, a plate of sinful looking pan fried dumplings and a rice roll (which I taupao an extra for tonight heheheheh). I had made a mental note to not overeat just in case, my tummy couldn’t handle the car ride home. That, was totally thrown out of the window when the food arrived.

and that's all it costed!

Anyhow, the ride home wasn’t that bad also because it took us only a mere 10-15minutes from Gelyang to my place (not that its all the near, but the car had superb engines and speed).

Ahhh….I am satisfied. And can tick that off my must-do list now and can finally stop nagging to everyone about going to Yong Hur.

Thanks Carol and D!

"Just in case you are hungry, have this first." The waiter said as he placed this bowl of pumkin soup before me. My main course came last and I must have looked hungry. Soup was yummy and I was full before my main course came. I must say though, the attentivness and impeccable service is impressived.

Spiced cracker, papadums and my all time fave, Samosa

For the past two Saturdays, I’ve been busy with my makeup class for baptism. The first class would start at 10.30am – 1pm, followed by 2pm – 430pm.  Quite taxing mentally I would say, and I am so looking forward to ‘graduating’.

We decided to go to a nice place for dinner this weekend, I think I was secretly making up for the ‘suffering’.

The dinner at Conrad Hotel was pleasant and filling, although Hubba commented that his Istimewa could have been better. Rae and I enjoyed ours tremendously and I  forced myself to finish as much of my food as I could.

After dinner, we made our way to the Flyer. First ride for Hubba, fourth ride for me and a scary ride for Rae. She was so scared, her hands were sweaty and was constantly grabbing me or Hubba. Unlike her first two rides, she stay put on her seat and did not move an inch. I really must screen what she watches on CNA from now on (I figured she recalled this incident). I was planning on going to Marina Barrage instead, but Hubba being skpetical/lazy/un-excitable himself, brought us to the Flyer instead.

So, that’s Saturday night and tomorrow, is another manic Monday in the mad house office. Just one more day to the training. Holding my breath till then and can only hope that everything will go well and smooth.

Snowed under

April 17, 2009

Ok, I realised I’ve been photo-blogging and not much writing. Its been real crazy at work since I returned from my 2 weeks holiday, and we are going into another 7 days training starting next Tuesday. And the printer messed up my training manual printing!!! I almost fainted when I noticed the mixed up but at least she’s committed to undo her ‘wrong’ and deliver my new set of notes by today. Another very important training tool will only be delivered tomorrow, when I am not in! sigh….I am a high ‘C’ personality so such last minute screw ups/plans/changes almost, always stresses my out like nobody’s business. I don’t like this!

On top of my preparations for the training, I have to work on 2 new banners with a brand new designer, prepare a presentation slide to have at least 80 photos! Over and above these crazy timelines, I have to organise 2 belated birthday parties for 2 of my trainers and a major celebration for my boss’s 50th birthday.

That’s just work. Don’t even get me started on home-front. I am seriously thinking I should just bite the bullet and re-train a part time helper………

Come back, Carol! I need to vent on MSN with you during work hours!!
